The Lightspeed adds a tiny bit of bass and takes away a touch of mid/low mid growl. As a reference, the typical sheet of paper is 3 thousandths of an inch thick, .003".. a Dollar bill is .004. That kind of variance from one fret to the next cannot be seen by holding the guitar and eyeballing the fingerboard. So what happens is your fingers are more sensitive than many know..Look for alnico 2 & 3 magnets. These are more creamy grit, BUT, I sold my p-90 Lollars casue they were too polite;original Lollars. But they have their place for a Jazzy sound. I have found most p-90's when they are screaming,clean up nicely when you lower the volume3 on the guitar.Nice comparison. The difference of real single coil and humbucker + EQ is quite apparent, but the answer to the final question - is just one type of pickups/guitar is sufficient is quite personal choice, though. Gibson has been doing this off/on since the 70’s. the main benefit is maple tends to be stiffer, making the neck less prone to warpage and having the headstock snap off. It is also more readily available than mahogany. gibson is notorious for quietly putting out a small batch of a randomly spec’d guitar. However I found it even low gain for a Plexi sound. I ran pedals with that model, and it was superb.
