137 posts · Joined 2013. #1 · Apr 15, 2014. Have been chasing a P0442 code and have changed out any suspect rubber lines and added hose clamps where needed as well as replacing the gas cap. I have noticed that my very rusty fuel vapor return line looks to have a few small seeps, showing wet spots on the line in the same consistent places.
Usually there is no return line on a carburetor as the needle and seat shut off the fuel flowing into the carb. The return line is usually on the fuel pump or sometimes as on many chrysler type systems on the fuel filter itself. I suspect that if the weber is a low pressure design about 2 psi, the regulator will help.Operating Pressure: 17 PSI. Minimum Flow @ Outlet: 28 GPH Low Pressure. Fuel Pump Location: In-Tank. The top one goes to the return line. The return line connects to the extra nipple in the sending unit on the top of the gas tank. The lower outflow line on the filler goes to the carb. It is not uncommon to hear of guys removing the return line during a mod but in the end the line always needs to be restored in order for the engine to run properly.1. I use to pay 55 cents per foot for the old stuff, but today I paid nearly $9.00 for 2 feet of the f/i hose. Just forward of the fuel tank, the line makes several sharp bends and also changes from rubber to metal line. 9 times out of 10, the leak is at this point. It's a much easier fix. you just undo the line, cut off the bad part by the end and re-attach.If it's only leaking while it's RUNNING AT the tank, it's most likely your return line and/or hose clamp. Loosen the back bolts and remove the front to tilt the tank forward so you can inspect. My bet is it's a hose clamp at the fuel pump. Tweet. #3. 03-04-2010, 12:17 PM. i just did a frame off on a 78 cj5 last season and if i remember correcty there are 3 nozzles on the tank on the front drivers side. one for fuel delivery to the filter. one is the return line and i think the third was an emission but mine was disconnected and plugged. yours being 75 might not have the third one ...Ditch the teed return line. That isn't doing you any good. Now connect it to the vent fitting that vents the rear (tallest) part of the tank so that the fuel is actually circulating back to the tank. Now connect the front tank vent to the main tank vent high up in the fender near where it joins the filler neck.Return line at 0psi so that looks clear. Checked temp sensor and ohm readings go down when warm. Map sensor checks OK. Grounds and voltage to the ECM is good. New coil and timing set at 8 BTDC Vacuum lines are all new and confirmed correctly hooked up. When I installed the used kit I used new O2, Coolant sensor, and fuel filter.The fuel system is very basic, so if you already replaced the FPR and confirmed its working well then the only other mechanical component in the system is the pump. The FSM doesn't provide any documentation on fuel line routing, connections, etc, and I cannot find a fuel line schematic anywhere.
