The threaded piece spins independent from the sensor. Going to try a step bit/die grinder today. I doubt the failed NOX sensor caused the DPF problems, but maybe vica-versa. Maybe the DPF problems should be covered under the emissions warranty and that lasts longer than two years and 65K.

The block for the sensor at the back/top of the motor is on the LHS of the firewall. The block for the DPF sensor is frame mounted. They are about $380 each (in Canada).
