In the beginning , there was the Glock 30. A compact version of full size Glock 21 .45 pistol. (The very same frames on the .45 pistol were used for the 10mm Glock pistols) Many complained that frame on both the Glock 21 and 30 (as well as the 10mm versions) were too large to have a proper grip and reach to the trigger.

Two very good pistols IMO. My G30 has been the most accurate Glock I've owned, but it is a brick. The Shield 45 is equally accurate and has been perfect through nearly 2k rounds. Both are fun to shoot and handle recoil well (the Shield surprisingly well for its size). There is an obvious capacity difference in favor of the G30.
The 30 does shoot softer than the 27 and also affords you the benefit of a full grip. The 36 isn't bad either. It has slightly more felt recoil than the 30 due to lighter slide and thinner grip. I never noticed musch difference with the 36 slide on my 30 (same as 30s).

So make sure it fits nice If you have a 22 already, and the 23 or 30 are easy enough to carry, you might as well try the 30.

Lastly the grip texture is different then Gen.3. If I had to choose out of the 30 models, in order the 30S, 30sf, 30 Gen.4, and last the regular Gen.3 30. When I got my 30S I posted a side by side size comparison (dunno if it was in this forum or another) with the 30s with the 9rd mag and the 10rd mag compared to my G26 and G19. The difference with the 9rd mag is incredible. It's only roughly 3cm taller than the G26 (eyeing it not actually measured).

SF stood for short frame...meaning shorter trigger reach. It is my understanding that the Gen 4 models without any backstrap installed has the same reach as the SF frames.
