Damage at Mark XIV is just fine, like every other beam type, and you can even have 2 omni beams (crafted + episode reward).

Vanguard Carrier. makes better use of the new lockbox trait - carrier wave shield hacking (intel seating) has a visual for linked command matrix console (space barbie) better for torpedo builds. I personally prefer the Vanguard Carrier mostly because I use the Ra'nodaire, the Support Carrier Romulan version on my Romulan toon.
