The TH350 transmission uses two accumulators. The accumulator for second gear, shown here, is located in the transmission case. It uses a large heavy-duty spring. It’s a common practice for transmission builders to leave out the spring during rebuilding (and some shift kits recommend it), which significantly firms and shortens the 1-2 shift.

If left out it will give you harder shifts.
Ever since I switched from a 2bbl to a 4bbl many years ago, my transmission kickdown on my TH350 in my 1972 has been goofy. Last night, after I had finished up some work I was doing on the car I reattached the throttle cable and the transmission kickdown cable and took the car out for a ride.
