But some were rated higher depending on it's application. 1989 was not a high horsepower maybe 230 or torque motor if I recall correctly. A 4l80e, stock (either new or rebuilt using stock-level parts), can handle about 450 hp or thereabouts. If you expect to go beyond that, I would suggest getting one built for more hp. A 6l80e, stock, is in the 5-600hp range from what I gather from google.

kenihemi. There are many supercharged and turbocharged hemi rams running around 500 hp and no trans issues if you only jump on it from a stop or in 1st gear. Never jump on it when in any gear higher than 1st. The downshift is what is what kills them because of the weak clutches for the downshift 2nd prime gear.Our stock transmission is rated for 400 hp.
