I plant sunflowers mixed with corn seed for food plots with my 495 John Deere planter, have had no problems since I've started doing this. Going to try straight sunflowers this year. As long as the seeds fit in the slot of the plate you should be fine.
This was using an Allis Chalmers planter and adaptor with Lustran and JD plates. I'd kinda like to have one of those guides, just too tight with the greenbacks. I have one I've used for a few years but got a Deutz-Allis planter (385) and now use that. The 333 with 78 planter units is a good planter. The only thing I really didn't like about it was that if you road it it wobbles because it's tail heavy. It's also harder to adjust than the 385 but still a good planter. When Agco got together if they would have put the white and allis planter together they would have had a great planter. Put the white hydraulic blower,and metering ,with the 385 unit.
