Go to the parking lot and hike 7/10 of a mile OR take a shuttle from the parking lot to an easy 3/10 of a mile hike to the tree. Lots of beautiful scenery and big trees here.

Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks are connected and similar, but not the same. The southwestern section of kings is very similar to sequoia (really, really big trees). The back of kings is the actual canyon and worth the hour drive to see. In both places you end up at pretty high elevation and you may feel it.

Park has two entrances, one through the south end of Sequoia, and one through Kings Canyon national Park. There is a shuttle that everyone should use. It was very busy and trying to find parking after 10 was about impossible. Come early get a parking spot at a shuttle stop and use the shuttle. Kinda cool to stay at a lodge in the middle of the sequoia national park. Truth be told, it's overpriced, a little musty, a little rundown, with a sub-par cafeteria. Nice deck to eat on, but that's about it. Wish we checked out the reviews before we came because then we would have brought our own food like everyone else recommended.
