The current XDM Elite OSP includes a 5.25 inch threaded barrel from factory, the previous generation XDM OSP also included both the standard 4.5 inch barrel and 5.25 inch threaded barrel out of the box. The barrels are compatible within the same caliber models, except to say throwing a smaller barrel into a larger slide model for obvious reasons.I want to know if I can replace the slide/barrel for an XDm/XDm EXTREME slide/barrel. Barrels are machined, bored, and rifled completely in our own shop. All barrels have a rate of twist of 1 turn in 16". XDMs and XDM Elites share the same barrel dimensions as one another and have the same length options available. 9mm - 1/2x28 threading. 40cal - 9/16x24 threading. 45cal - .578-28 threading. Most of the mass on a XDM is in the slide. I'm trying to get that reciprocating mass down a little. I've already added weight to the frame to counter it (with the exception of making an old tac light frame into a weight). Also, honestly, the aesthetics is part of it...something to set it apart (besides running a XDM in Limited Major).

I am curious if anybody has tried swapping the XDm 45 slide or frame with an XDm 40 or 9mm slide or frame. In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned.The XDM slide is too narrow to low mount the RMR with the mounting lugs. The RMR can handle the cycling of the slide, and even if you mount it on the slide, it takes some practice to find the dot. The dual mounted sights are a bit busy and I don't think make a better shooting picture. Total weight is 30 ounces with an empty magazine. Magazine capacity is excellent, at 16 rounds. For comparison, the Smith & Wesson M&P40 and GLOCK 22 each have a capacity of 15 rounds.That isn't that expensive. You might consider buying a second XDM with a Stainless slide and possibly OD frame. That way you could have the possibility of all 4 combintations (Black on black, black bi-tone, Stainless/OD and Black/OD). It would cost a lot more than refinishing, but you'd have 4 guns for the price of 2!
