I think the manufacturers intended the clutch to be run dry. If the correct dry lubricant is used it probably helps at least until the lubricant gets slung off. Using something oily should work as well but will attract and hold dirt possibly making the problem worse in the long run.

On our 2011 Gator 855D, one of the two bearing sleeves inside the hub of secondary clutch (on the transaxle side) split and moved outside the hub. It prevents the discs from sliding sliding towards each other on the central shaft. It jammed the discs in their widest position with loss of drive as the result.
