Things I've done : Check shut off buttons front and rear. Pushed the charge button and waited until it started to blink with and without another car jumping.My 06 Ford Escape Hybrid won't start. Car will start up initially in driveway but after a few minutes engine cuts out and a message saying stop safely now is displayed in the dash. I’ve been getting this message for a while now but it would mostly occur in the summer when my car would overheat. Over the past summer I seemed to have gotten the issue fixed as the wiring was all over the place and was causing the hybrid battery to over heat and automatically shut the engine off either while idle or driving.

It is an easy thing to replace yourself, a couple of hoses and one wiring harness clips into it. It runs about $250 for the part. The original MECS pumps in the 05-08's were prone to failure, and usually died between 50,000 and 80,000 miles. The replacements available now are a revised design that is much more durable.
