Buick enclave ignition switch problems.

Hi all from a new member. I gave my grandson a 2012 Buick enclave. The same day I gave it to him, the ignition key can't be taken out. My question is what problems do I create if I temporarily zip tie the little plunger on the ignition switch to make it able to go into the lock position and thus enabling the key to be removed?I am the not so proud owner of a 2008 Enclave and the engine will not shut off. I have removed the key several times and it continues to run. I even tried removing the battery neg. cable and letting it sit for 20 minutes and then replacing it to see if it would reset the computer.The contact owns a 2011 Buick Enclave.
