The MLP posits that transitions come about through interaction processes within and among three analytical levels: niches, socio-technical regimes and a socio-technical landscape. This systematic review provides an overview on the use of the MLP in research on agro-food sustainability transitions. Figure1illustrates the relationship between the three levels of MLP: landscape, regime, and niche. A regime is all of the people, rules, practices, process technologies, and infras-tructure embedded in a particular socio-technological system [28]. The landscape is the col-lective societal, economic, and political realm surrounding the regime.3.2. A modified MLP framework for China's NEVs. As discussed above, the landscape level of the MLP denotes the exogenous context faced by China's NEV industry, including politics, economics, and culture; the regime denotes the current socio-technical system of the auto industry, while the niche denotes the development of the industry to achieve breakthrough innovations.

The MLP distinguishes three levels of heuristic, analytical concepts ( Rip and Kemp, 1998, Geels, 2002 ): niche-innovations, sociotechnical regimes and sociotechnical landscape.
