I usually use 4.0 gr of Promo with a 200 gr cast bullet for 805 fps. At 288 ft-lbs of energy, it's a pretty light load.It certainly can be used. Just went to Hodgdons reloading data online. 55 gr. Bullets can get to 3300 fps, but you might try Hornady data to confirm load. I use it successfully in 22-250 with 55 gr Sierra Spitzer point and hollow point and run them to 3700 on Spitzer and 3600 on hollow point. Good choice for powder in your 223 I would say.

I've been reloading with Hodgdon Titewad on my MEC Sizemaster. I get quite a bit of powder flakes 'leaking' from the charge bar area when reloading. I have a brass washer that does help with the leaking, but it doesn't stop it by any means. When I reload with Clays and Universal Clays I don't have this problem. Thanks, Wayne

Simplify reloading 12 ga. with Clays powder. Being just a clay target shooter I am going to load everything with Clays powder. There are nearly 300 different loads published on the Hodgdon site. It will cover 3/4 oz, 7/8, 1, and 1/18 oz loads . I am told that 1200 fps is enough for any clay game, exception being some long sporting clays shots.There are powders that will do 7/8 and use a grain or two less than Clays, but Clays sure will work, and you have it. You can never go wrong with W209 and STS. One powder you might consider is Titewad but it is pretty dense which mean you might get dished crimps on an STS. The load will fit better in an AAHS.929.
