It just reduces voltage to the igniter to turn it on. If you have no power when the switch is turned on, start by checking voltage on the white wire at the switch, should be battery voltage.It is noticeable in first and second, but its really bad in 3, 4, and 5th. I rode another fellows Vulcan 1500 of the same year and model and it was very quite, no noise like that. This is not a valve noise, its a severe noise which sounds to me like backlash in a gear set.
