You have to compare apples to apples -- with the same brand and type pistons, same brand and type rods. Here's an example that will have you scratch your head. SRP flat top 383 piston for 5.7" rod = 472 gm. SRP flat top 383 piston for 6.0" rod = 419 gm. Eagle SIR 5.7" rod = 535 gm.

After testing Arties engine, I'm convinced that the solid roller 383 has more potential than 500hp/500 lb/ft still at a streetable rpm. I'd like to do a 393 with an aftermarket block 4.155 bore and a 3.625" stroke; the XR274 roller cam and 2.08" valve AFR heads. Please use the chart below as a preliminary head recommendation guide for our products. There are 4 different compression charts listed. First, pick your compression. Then, choose your bore (looking down) & stroke (looking across).
