Roger - the ICCC site shows date range of model 243A as 1937 - 1942 . Many senior members have commented that you can add/subtract a year on both ends of the date ranges shown on the ICCC site . I would say yes , your 243A is October 1943. It should have a 242 style ball nut to hold the vent and a modern positive shutoff pump / check valve setup.
